An important part of the craft beer culture is trading bottles with fellow collectors and Brewskis in South Miami recognizes this which is why they are hosting Nightlife Brewing Company's "Hook Up and Trade Up" bottle trade event on August 18.

Bottle trading is serious business. These are gatherings where some of the rarest beers on Earth frequently change hands.

Organized events moderated with a venue are typically more sanctioned among bottle collectors. In public trading the deals are more transparent. Private trading, however, can be a bit riskier and bad trades do occur. For these reasons, it is both a unifier and a rupture of the craft beer community.

It's not just a bottle trade, but a tasting. Nightlife Brewing will have a few kegs available: Liquid Luck Belgian Golden Strong Ale, Orange Bowl American Wheat Ale, and Unrelenting Will Rye Brown Porter--a collaboration with J. Wakefield Brewing Company. A $5 donation will be expected for the beer.

If you are serious about trading, an RSVP call to Brewskis at 305-397-8125 is required. The trade runs from 1 to 4 p.m., at which point the bar becomes fully open to the public. The trade will most likely cap at 40-50 people as seating is limited.

Brewskis is the former location of Cervezas, which was acquired by Bougainvillea's Old Florida Tavern owners Nick Lecat and Cesar Rincon last December and made the name change last March.

Like its predecessor, Brewskis has more than 400 varieties of bottled beer and 16 weekly rotating taps.

The bottle trade is being facilitated by Nightlife Brewing Company, a new craft brewing company in the making formed in November 2012 by John Cooper and Juan O'Naghten.

Sunday's event kicks off a series of tastings for Nightlife. Cooper and O'Naghten will be pouring a keg of their Havana Night coffee porter at the Piggy Bank Fundraising Supper at Swine Southern Table and Bar featuring Chef Matt McCallister, who is flying in from Dallas. Tickets are $75 and seats are capped at 50. Nightlife will also be pouring at the Miami Entrepreneurial Center on September 6.
