Pairings lets you explore the best of Broward in one evening.
Let's face it. Even though Miamians love their shiny new BMW's we're loathe to drive anywhere. Maybe it's the traffic on I-95 that has our skin crawl whenever a friend in Fort Lauderdale or Hollywood asks us to come up to try their favorite spot for brunch, but for some reason, once we're firmly planted in the 305, we stay here.

But sometimes there's good reason to venture out into 954 territory -- like the annual New Times' Pairings event on Thursday, September 26 at the Broward County Convention Center.

This evening brings together the best restaurants in Broward County with the world's finest wines -- with a twist. Each restaurant features its very own wine pairing carefully selected to compliment the food served. That means no waiting separately for a pour and no guessing whether the Oregon Pinot Noir or the French Burgundy works better with your dish. You just have to enjoy.

Restaurants serving up some delicious food include Tap 42, the Fort Lauderdale gastropub where Andrew Balick is creating innovative food designed to play well with the restaurant's 51 beers on tap, crafted cocktails, and fine wines. Chef Balick's resume includes Azul at the Mandarin Oriental Miami, the DiLido Beach Club at the Ritz-Carlton South Beach, Pied a Tierre at the Cadet Hotel, and the Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale.

3030 Ocean will also be a featured restaurant at Pairings. The restaurant, which features sustainable seafood, was the training ground for chef Paula DaSilva, who spent over a decade honing her skills under 3030 Ocean's chef/owner then executive chef Dean James Max. DaSilva then left to open 1500 Degrees at the Eden Roc in 2010. DaSilva has recently returned to 3030 Ocean and Pairings gives diners an opportunity to taste her beautiful food again.
