Lolis Eric Elie
New Orleans journalist, writer, and documentary filmmaker Lolis Eric Elie will be making an appearance at Books & Books in Coral Gables to sign copies of this new volume: Treme: Stories and Recipes from the Heart of New Orleans.

The book signing starts at 7 p.m. With recipes such as chef Janette Desautel's crawfish ravioli and LaDonna Batiste-Williams's smothered turnip soup, Elie's book is a compilation of recipes taken from New Orleans' culturally rich neighborhood of Treme, as well as David Simon's HBO series with the same name.

Co-authored by Anthony Bourdain and Simon, Elie's book is 240 pages of essential recipes and stories from post-Katrina New Orleans, 100 in all.

The book includes recipes from the city's most treasured restaurants such as Upperline, Bayona, Restaurant August, and Herbsaint, plus original recipes from chefs Eric Ripert, David Chang.

A culinary mecca, New Orleans is know for an influential and distinctive cuisine that has developed over centuries from a blending of Creole, French, Spanish, Italian, Native American, Cuban, Chinese and Vietnamese cultures. The book could not get any more authentic as it is written by an author who hails from one of New Orleans' oldest neighborhoods.

Elie and Bourdain were both writers for Simon's Treme, which premieres its fourth and final season on HBO starting in December. Before writing for the show, Elie wrote about the food culture of Treme.

Elie is a former columnist for the New Orleans Times-Picayune and also wrote and co-produced the documentary Faubourg Treme: The Untold Story of Black New Orleans. Elie recently landed a writing job with AMC's "Hell on Wheels."
