Julio Cabrera Wins Bombay Sapphire Most Imaginative Bartender Competition, Scores a GQ Cover
In Las Vegas last evening, the ten most imaginative bartenders in the United States faced off for the title of the Bombay Sapphire Most Imaginative Bartender 2013, in partnership with the United States Bartending Guild.
Bombay Sapphire Cabrera's name in lights!
Each bartender was already a winner, having taken the title in his or her region before advancing to the finals at Mandalay Bay's Light Nightclub, but all of Miami's hopes were riding on local mixologist Julio Cabrera to nab the victory!

Cabrera, who shakes things up at the Regent Cocktail Club in South Beach, made the cocktail that won him a place at the finals -- the Ganesha, named for the Hindu elephant deity that represents success and beginnings and removes obstacles.
Cabrera advances to the 2014 global Most Imaginative Bartender competition and also receives the best prize in the history of the world! The dapper gentleman bartender will be featured on the cover of the December 2013 GQ "Men of the Year" issue alongside his winning cocktail.
Here's the recipe for Cabrera's winning Ganesha. Looks like the god of success was right along with him in spirit.
2 oz. Bombay Sapphire gin
3/4 oz. grapefruit-Masala Syrup (homemade)
3/4 oz. fresh-squeezed lemon juice
1 bar spoon Martini dry vermouth
elderflower espuma (homemade)
3 drops of Mumbai bitters (homemade)
Combine gin, grapefruit/masala syrup, lemon juice, and dry vermouth in a chilled shaker. Shake well with ice and strain into cocktail glass. Top with elderflower espuma and Mumbai bitters and then garnish with a microbasil sprig and grapefruit zest.
