Michael's Genuine Home Brew Officially Launches Next Month, Miami Homebrew Goes National
After being on the test market for more than a year, Michael's Genuine Home Brew will finally make its official debut across Florida and several other states starting in October.

The new format will be a four-pack 12-ounce bottles retailing for $9.99, rather than the 22-ounce bottles that have been served on a small scale. Contract-brewed at the Back Forty Brewing Company in Gadsden, Alabama, but Miami-inspired, MIchael's Genuine brew will be handled by none other than Brown Distributing, whose territory includes the East Coast.
The recipe comes from the mind of James Beard-winning chef Michael Schwartz, leader of the Genuine Hospitality Group, which includes restaurants such as Michael's Genuine Food and Drink and Harry's Pizzeria, where Michael's home brew can be found on tap. Staying true to his locally-sourced philosophy, the ale is made with Florida sugar cane and Semi-Chi, the state's only locally-grown and milled brown rice.
According to its website, Florida Crystals is the country's first and only producer of certified organic sugar and owner of the world's largest sugar refining company, ASR Group.
The 22-ounce bottles can already be found at stores such as Total Wine and More as well as in Alabama at chef Chris Hasting's Hot and Hot Fish Club in Birmingham, although the current batch is almost gone in anticipation of a fresh batch coming out in October, according to Jackie Sayet, brand director for the Genuine Hospitality Group.
If it finds a market beyond the State of Florida, Michael's Genuine will join the ranks of Florida beers that have made it big.
