Coconut Grove Seafood Festival: Stone Crabs, Fresh Fish, Warm Day
The inaugural Coconut Grove Seafood Festival brought the first stone crabs of the season and fresh fish to Peacock Park yesterday afternoon.
With weather better suited for July than October, the sun scorched everything it touched for the first few hours of the event, which began at 11 a.m. Then, mercifully, clouds rolled in to break the searing heat. Frankly, the high temperatures at first turned us off the fried fish platter, but that only meant we sought out (and found) refreshing choices such as fresh ceviche, chilled stone crabs, custom-made conch salad, and lobster rolls direct from New England.
Here's a taste of some of the fresh seafood we encountered.
