Deconstructed caesar salad for the comeback.
Certain words are so good they're worth repeating. Fish Fish in North Miami has such a name. The place also offer classic dishes that shouldn't be forgotten.

Seafood is the star at this fish market and restaurant, but we were pleasantly surprised by the entire menu -- from starters all the way to desserts.

On a recent visit for lunch, I split my meal with a friend, and we were shocked at the amount of food we each received. (These photos show only half-portions.)

We began our meal with the deconstructed grilled caesar salad ($12) -- grilled romaine hearts, grilled bread, homemade dressing, and anchovies. We ordered this salad because we couldn't believe this dish was on a menu in 2014. But we actually ended up enjoying it.

Its components have been constructed and deconstructed countless times, but the result was a terrific salad. (On Instagram, someone even asked us if we had gone back in time.)

We've gone hogfish wild.
Short Order's current local fish obsession is hogfish, so we couldn't resist ordering it. Their hogfish -- Fish Fish-style ($32) -- is fried with panko and topped with scallions, tomato, Parmesan, and key lime butter sauce. The dish is served alongside lemongrass-infused rice and grilled asparagus.

The fish's flavor was not masked. Rather, it was intensified by somewhat surprising flavors. My dining companion thought cheese and fish together sounded revolting, but one bite in and we were pleasantly surprised.

We finished our meal with baked Alaska. This classic dessert -- which features cake on the bottom, ice cream in the middle, and meringue on top -- was made even more old-school with a Neapolitan-style treat in the center.

We can't remember the last time our spoon took a journey from chocolate to vanilla to strawberry. This time, though, it was definitely memorable.
