Les Dames D'Escoffier Miami to Host Gourmet Garage Sale
How in the world can you call yourself an avid home cook when your home tools consist of some half melted plastic spatula and a frying pan you bought at Publix for 15 bucks?
Not your everyday garage sale.
The proper tools are essential for succeeding in the kitchen, but some of the prices are outrageous! Luckily for you, the Les Dames D'Escoffier Miami (LDEM) are hosting their annual garage sale, where you can stock up on everything you need at bargain prices.
On Saturday, January 25 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m., the Galleria of the Coral Gables Museum will turn into a veritable warehouse of gourmet and professional flatware, pots, pans, bakeware, stemware, small appliances, and more -- all gently used and donated by either members of Les Dames D'Escoffier Miami or some major Miami hotels.
If you're into entertaining, look out for candles, art, linens, napkins, and more, and if you're just a foodie who likes to eat other people's masterpieces, there's baked goods, jams, and fresh-from-the-farm produce available for purchase -- all grown or prepared by the Dames themselves. If you want to add to your cookbook library, there are a host of books, some signed by the authors, available.
We asked Dorothee Rubin, president of LDEM, what we should look out for at the sale. "We just received something very special. We have a good relationship with some very exclusive Miami Hotels. I can't name the properties, but they donated some gorgeous hotel linens and pots and pans. I just saw a wonderful set of Scandinavian flatware for eight, and a beautiful set of English China. We also have some silver teapots for sale. Seems as though some of the Dames don't want to polish their silver anymore and are donating them."
Rubin also pointed out that all the merchandise is "gently used", with nothing broken or stained offered for sale, and that on average, all items are 50-75% less than retail price.
Admission to the sale (and parking) is free, and the Dames take cash and credit cards, so be sure to clear out your trunk space for all the goodies you'll be bringing home.
Proceeds from the sale benefit the LDEM, which is a non-profit organization comprised of female culinary, wine, hospitality, and farming professionals dedicated to funding scholarships for local young women interested in pursuing a career in culinary arts. The Dames also sponsor organic school vegetable gardens and support educational programs for area youth and South Florida's farm labor force.
