Snow cones, popcorn, cotton candy, pin-up models, and beer: It sounds like a fun-filled family afternoon at the circus, but it's really the Lagunitas Sessions event by Lagunitas Brewing Company at World of Beer Kendall on March 20 at 4:20 p.m.

The beers from the Petaluma, California company have been in the South Florida market for a while, but this will be the brewery's first Miami event, where drinkers will be able to taste a small variety of Lagunitas seasonals. Snow cone, popcorn, and cotton candy machines will be there too, providing some enhanced bar food to WOB customers.

South Florida has become a destination for craft beer thanks to the new breweries, distributors, and bars, but just because a brewery hits a new market doesn't mean there's a lot of product to go around.

As Lagunitas South Florida sales representative Joe Reyes explains it, only 16 kegs of the company's seasonal brew are distributed in South Florida across a four-county region. The most common Lagunitas tap you might be able to find at a bar in the region is Lagunitas IPA, but its other brews are extremely hard to find.

Aside from its IPA (rated at 6.2 percent alcohol by volume) tap, Lagunitas will have three seasonals:

  • Brown Shugga', an American strong ale rated at a 9.99 percent ABV
  • Cappuccino Stout, an imperial stout rated at 9.20 percent ABV
  • Lagunitas Sucks, an imperial IPA rated at 7.85 percent ABV

Cappuccino Stout is Lagunitas' latest seasonal release. The brewery receives high ratings by users from both BeerAdvocate and RateBeer. BeerAdvocate rates Lagunitas as a "world-class" brewery. The West Coast company recently expanded to the Midwest, where a brewery is projected to open in Chicago by this May.

Because there is a pin-up theme for this event, women who attend are encouraged to dress as pin-up models.

And why is it being held at 4:20? Why such a peculiar time? Taking into consideration that this is a West Coast company (San Francisco Bay Area), the answer might seem obvious, but it just might be how Lagunitas rolls.

"It's pretty much our style," Reyes said.
