Though the understated exterior of Bunbury might not grab stares among Wynwood's shocks of color, its subtle style and ambiance might make it your new favorite chill spot. Bunbury, which opened on NE Second Ave. at the end of April, is run by Argentinian sommeliers who know a thing or two about wine. They also know a thing or two about Argentine cooking: co-owners and sommeliers, Paula Costa and Fernanda Orellano, have created a fusion of Argentinian and American cuisine for their menu.

The restaurant boasts an extensive wine collection ranging from Californian to Argentinian wines. "We want to change the notion that good wine has to be expensive," said Costa. Bunbury plans to hold wine tasting classes and to sell wine to people at friendly prices, making it easier to become a fine wine enthusiast. They also deliver wine and empanadas ($3-$4.50) within a one-mile radius. Good news for all of us who don't live in Wynwood: They're looking to expand their delivery range soon.

Sip wine and listen to live jazz music on the patio.
Bunbury is dark and cozy, with playful touches like lighthearted comic strips decorating the walls. The restaurant would seem small if it weren't for the massive garage-turned-window that rolls up to reveal the patio. Outside, twinkling string-lights hang from the newly renovated outdoor ceiling to create a casual, relaxed vibe. An oversized chalkboard marks Bunbury's extensive collection of signature Argentinian wines, with a handwritten note covering a wall and shelves all around holding empty wine glasses.

"Our signature collection has 80 labels of wine, and we're developing a reference book with about 500 options so people can order what they like," Costa said. Bunbury's signature wines are mostly from the classic Argentinian winery Rutini, as well as from Zuccardi. There is a weekly sommelier's wine that is generally priced around $30 a bottle.

The "Bunbury" empanada is stuffed with prosciutto, brie, and mushrooms.
Bunbury is developing an idea called "wine on the rocks," which will consist of classic cocktails mixed with wine (for example, a mojito mixed with moscato). A mojito is $7 at happy hour and is made with fresh ingredients from Bunbury's garden. They use fresh oregano, basil, sage, and other herbs in their food and drink items.

House sangria.
There is an entire menu of seasonal tapas which may soon be changing. As the restaurant is in its early stages, the chefs are diligently experimenting with different tastes. Empanadas feature prominently on the menu, along with other items like mini hamburgers and salads. (pro tip: order more than one empanada; there are six different choices). Bunbury just finished their patio and has plans for expansion; they are currently in the process of building an outdoor lounge. Sangria and empanadas will be served for happy hour, which goes daily from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Bunbury is open Monday through Friday from noon to midnight, and on Saturday from 7 p.m. until 1 a.m. Closed Sundays.

Understated is a word, they should put up a banner that says "we're not a gas station".
