Nina Compton to leave Scarpetta.
Nina Compton, who fascinated Amercia on this season's Top Chef, is leaving Scarpetta at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

Although Compton didn't win the competition, she came in a close second and won the coveted "Fan Favorite" title.

After the competition, Compton returned to Scarpetta to much acclaim.

Although she revealed to Short Order that she was fielding offers, she made it clear she was happy with her gig with celebrity chef Scott Conant, saying, "Right now, we're jammed for the next couple of months, so I'm taking it one day at a time, enjoying all the people who come to see me. For a long-term goal, I would definitely open a restaurant if something does open up for me, but for right now I'm good where I am. I'm really happy and just enjoying the moment."

The chef tweeted her departure earlier today, saying simply:

The Fontainebleau issued the following statement:

"Nina Compton has stepped down from her role as chef de cuisine of Scarpetta at Fontainebleau Miami Beach. She has been an amazing Team Member, and we wish her the best in all future endeavors. Effective immediately, Marlon Rambaran has been appointed the chef de cuisine at Scarpetta. We expect a seamless transition in the restaurant's kitchen."

As early as a few weeks ago, New Times spoke with Chef Compton, who was hosting a dinner with fellow Top Chef "cheftestant" Shirley Chung. They mused over a hypothetical restaurant they might or might not open. We can only hope that the talented toques are really working on a collaboration -- and that it'll be located in Miami.

We miss the times when culinary superstars made their reputations the right way, through years of hard work in kitchens across the culinary spectrum.

Flash in a pan, at the moment "stars?" should build experience first before trying to take on such a premiere role in Miami's culinary history.

Try working into a position, you'll appreciate it more when it is not just given.
