Choices Cafe Brickell Closing Its Doors With Farewell Bash

Last month's announcement that Choices Cafe's Brickell location is closing has left plant eaters across South Florida crying into their quinoa. But it's not all sad-face emojis. The vegan eatery is planning a celebratory sendoff.

Fans and friends will gather Saturday, July 26, to say so long to three years of tasty eats and compassionate choices. Food, fun, and fond nostalgia are in order.

The location has been open since 2011, but condo developers buying up the property is forcing the popular café to close. The owners are looking for another space.

"Our Brickell location was a seed, which has sprouted two more wonderful places and many more in the future. But even so, its demise will be a teary goodbye. It is our grandparent who will be dearly missed," co-owner Jorge Cuevas said.

The party will include a raffle to win dinner for two at Choices Kitchen; live tunes; the chance to pen your farewell on the wall; words from James Wildman of the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida (ARFF); games; prizes; and updates on what's next for the compassionate chain.

"We will always cherish and retain the great memories of events and special moments. The site's continued legacy is the affirmation that compassionate, healthy eating to save the planet is embraced and treasured by Miami," Cuevas said. "Accordingly, we will carry that torch onward as we grow in new places around town."

Thank goodness we can still get our cruelty-free fix at Choices Kitchen near the airport and Choices Cafe on the Upper Eastside. Because what would Miami do without Mental Lentil wraps and buffalo tempeh?

The party runs from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Choices Cafe Brickell. Admission is free. You can RSVP and check out more details on Facebook.

GOOD RIDDANCE! $16 for a wrap, $10 for a juice, add tax and tip and you're out almost $30 just for a lunch. And they have the audacity to build this by Little Havana and on the "Upper East Side" [a few blocks away from Little Haiti]. If not even the people that live in Brickell can afford your stuff, then I doubt their other locations will last for long.

Choices Cafe currently has two other locations (One in the upper East Side and the other near the airport) and is now seeking to open a new venue within the Greater Miami area. Thus, while the forced closing (Developers purchased the building, apparently) is an unwelcome turn of events, new, exciting developments for Choices appear to be on the horizon. With time, energy invested wisely and patience, something even better surely will come from this time of transition and change for Choices Cafe - Vegan / Raw Vegan / Organic

Great concept but way over-priced. For some reason eating healthy in Miami is expensive with very little affordable options. Austin, Portland, Seattle, NYC, San Fran all have 100% vegan restaurant with creative dishes for much less $$. At choices the average is $25 per person. For $25 in most cities two people can eat a vegan meal.
