We're looking forward to Grovetoberfest.
Just about had it with summer? Between killer mosquitoes and alternating burning sun and thunderstorms, we're looking forward to the relative cool of autumn. That -- and beer.

October is traditionally the time for beer and, while Germany's Oktoberfest is world famous, Miami has its own unique celebration of brew. We're talking about Grovetoberfest.

The one-day cavalcade of beer returns to Coconut Grove's Peacock Park on Saturday, Oct. 18, and this year promises to be bigger than ever. Translation: more beer.

A lot more beer, in fact. Grovetoberfest organizer and "chief beer taster" Tony Albelo tells Short Order that this year's event will feature dozens more beers than before. "This year we'll have over 300 beers, compared to 250 different brews last year. Plus, many breweries are going to be releasing new brews for the first time at Grovetoberfest including Wynwood Brewing, MIA Brewing, Miami Brewing, and for the first time anywhere, Concrete Beach beers."

In addition to limited release brews available in the VIP section, Albelo said that many breweries will bring special brews for "timed tappings" throughout the festival, for everyone. Last year, Oakland Park's Funky Buddha Brewery offered up a different special beer hourly, including their popular "No Crust," which is best described as PB&J in a glass.

Returning to Grovetoberfest is the Milam's Kitchen Lab, where some of Miami's best chefs demonstrate how to cook with beer, and the Miami homebrew contest, where some of South Florida's best home brewers get to strut their stuff.

Tickets are $40 for general admission (with entrance from 4 to 7 p.m.); $70 for beer socialite (with early entrance at 3 p.m.); and $90 for VIP (2:30 p.m. entrance and access to the VIP area) and go on sale August 1. The festival is offering a special "insider" discount to Short Order readers, while supplies last. Use code VIP50 to purchase $90 VIP tickets for $50 (only 200 tickets will be sold at this price). General admission tickets, normally $40, can be purchased for $30 using code GA30 (only 1,000 tickets will be sold at this price).

Albelo also told us that Grovetoberfest attendance will be capped at a total of 6,500 tickets, a directive from city officials, and he's expecting the event to be sold out way inadvance . Best get in on the action early. Visit grovetoberfest.com to purchase your tickets.

Sucks the VIPs don't get the bag or the pint glass. Paying $20 extra for 30 more minutes and the handful of beers in VIP area, the snacks, and an AC when you take a leak wasn't worth it. I never felt like walking across the park to use the VIP restrooms for one.

Lets negotiate.  Your ticket is too much.  How about $15 for Grove residents?  And locals can drink out of 12 OZ cups?

I can't wait!!!!!  I've wanted to go the past couple years but in 2012 I was hospitalized for rhabdo and in 2013 I was in a wheelchair recovering from back surgery.  This year I'm for sure going to stop by before I hit my box for a sesh.

I disagree.  The cups are too large.  This is just another frat boy beer drinking event.  You overcompensate for your small penises and meanwhile you flood our streets with drunks.

For real!  90$ for VIP??  For a VIP pass I get access to a 5 ounce plastic cup and a temporary toilet?  No doubt you will do well.  Miami is great like that, you will make money.  Just don"t pretend its anything more than that.

How about bigger cups this year?  Waiting in line for every two sips gets old.

@Jake $90 would like totally be worth it if pit bulls were going with a miami subs tent, or if like corona was there with fresh limes cut, coronas coming out with a craft beer soon, no?

@Jamal They must all be about the beer - Nothing like waiting in line for a Shock Top (Anheusur Busch).

@Sherly The cups may look small, but they are 5.5 ounces. About half a beer. (12 ounces in a typical can/bottle). Hope you make it!

Hey Rand, don here. Let's ditch this festival. Just grill brats, maybe sip some suds too. You know, like the old days. Just two bros and some beers. Lol am I right? Call me. I haven't had anyone to talk to since you left. It's kind of quiet. Lol just playing. I'm balling so hard. But seriously, at night after turning off the lights I think about what could have been. All the regrets. All the things that should have been said. Whatever if you want to chill hit me up. Not that I need you I've got mad hoes. But call ok? Dealz?

@TonyAlbelo @Sherly Nope.  They are small.  Volume capacity is one thing.  The pour is another.
