Shuckers reopens with a new deck tomorrow.
Just in time for an early start to the weekend, Shuckers Waterfront Grill will open tomorrow at noon.

The iconic waterfront bar and grill that saw so many Miamians beat the heat with a cold beer and a breeze over the water, opens its new patio Thursday, July 24, at noon.

Manager Don Farnham tells Short Order that the restaurant received a complete makeover -- including the rebuilding of the deck -- but that the original footprint remains the same. The 110-by-25-foot deck features plenty of seating, an extra-long bar, and boat slips.

What hasn't changed is much of the staff, who, according to Farnham, will return to duty tomorrow.

The restaurant's menu will remain largely the same, with freshly shucked oysters the specialty of the house -- hence the name.

The restaurant was forced to close last year after its deck collapsed during an NBA playoffs game, sending dozens of patrons into Biscayne Bay. According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue's Capt. Eugene Germain Jr., at least two dozen people were injured, and 15 people had to be transported to local hospitals. The new deck, as evidenced by photos on the restaurant's Facebook page, features heavy concrete beams reinforced with metal rods. The old deck was made mostly of wood.

Shuckers opens tomorrow at noon and will be open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
