MIA Brewing tap handles will soon appear in bars around Miami-Dade County and beyond.
MIA Brewing Company opened for production last month, and beginning September 1, Miami-Dade's newest brewery will begin pushing kegs across the county.

However, a couple of select bars will receive kegs before official distribution. Lokal in Coconut Grove and Kush in Wynwood will both receive MIA's 305 Tropical lager.

"Technically, we start on September 1, but we will be delivering kegs to Kush and Lokal on Thursday," said Eddie Leon, owner of MIA Brewing Company. "Maybe a few other key accounts earlier. We are officially launching at the Key West Brew Fest on Saturday."

MIA Brewing's flagships include:

  • Miami Weiss Hefeweizen, 5.2 percent alcohol by volume (ABV)
  • 305 Tropical Lager, 5 percent ABV
  • MIA Breiwng IPA (India pale ale), 6 percent ABV

The brewery will deliver its beer via Most Wanted Beverages, the distribution company cofounded by Leon. Under Florida law, a beer manufacturer cannot distribute its own product. But Leon is allowed to have a limited partnership in a distribution company for up to eight years.

MIA Brewing is based in Doral and is the county's third full production brewery, not including brewpubs.

The brewery includes a tasting room, but its construction will likely not be complete for several months. The room will include space for at least 50 tap handles, including guest taps from area breweries. That is a sign of respect -- or perhaps a symbol of camaraderie -- among competitors.

The distribution will grow gradually, Leon says, although production will most likely increase once the company has firmly entered the market. Storage capacity has already been added to the brewery with a fermentation tank.

But to fill the tank, MIA Brewing will need manpower. Which is why MIA Brewing is seeking an assistant brewer. The brewery is looking for qualified candidates with at least two years of production experience. Applicants can send their resumés to jobs@miabrewing.com.

Thanks! We're getting there. Miami is definitely becoming a beer town. We should have 6 production breweries open by November.
