We've featured a ton of blogs here on Short Order, but here's one for the boys that we couldn't help but leak. Baseball, liquor, some literature (for the smart, sensitive types), and more booze. Piqued your interest? Read on.

Rather new to the blogging world, David Gonzalez of Cabinet Beer Baseball Club has mad skills with both words and booze. Plus he's got local street cred, boasting friends such as Adam Gersten and Scott Cunningham, which doesn't hurt.

We got the scoop on what to drink and how to do it like a proper gentleman.

Name: David Gonzalez

Blogging since: January 2011

Day job: English professor

Hometown: Miami, Florida (a local, naturally)

Reason for blogging: "I've always filed booze, books, and baseball in the same part of my brain. It's like, you start talking about these things -- about this crazy-good bourbon you picked up (Russell's Reserve 10 Year Old Bourbon) or the blindingly brilliant book of poems by a local writer (Emma Trelles's Tropicalia) or Logan Morrison's VORP (pushing 15, in case you're wondering) -- and most people's eyes begin to glaze over. I just wanted a place where I could write about that stuff and, hopefully, people who were interested would come find it."

An F.B.I. raid has shut down popular food site, Eater
According to The New York Times, The F.B.I, seized several Web servers, including Eater's in a raid of DigitalOne's hosting facility in Reston, Virginia.

DigitalOne is a Web hosting company based in Switzerland, with dozens of major Web clients in the United States.

Bitchin' Camero
Melissa Camero has been chronicling her home cooking on her blog, Bitchin' Camero, for four years. Her homey recipes -- the guava and cream cheese French toast she prepared recently is just drool-worthy -- and beautiful photos will make you want an invite to her home or at least to get into your kitchen. Here's what she had to say about her approach to cooking and her favorite recipes

Name: Melissa Camero Ainslie

Blogging since: January 2007 though those old posts are downright embarrassing.

Day job: VP Production at AgencyNet. We make websites, apps and other internet stuff.

Hometown: Miami

Reason for blogging: Originally started as a way to share and keep track of what I was making for dinner. Somehow people found my little site and now blogging helps keep me creative in the kitchen.

Boy Writes Miami, Pissing Off Yelp and Others Along the Way

Categories: Blog Watch
boy_writes_miami.jpg
"[Reviews] aren't the place for rants about matters that don't address the core of the normal customer experience," a lady named Alma wrote on Yelp. She was reprimanding Orlando Winters for a review on the site. It wasn't surprising, considering his reviews usually approach near absurdity. But so what? Nobody can accuse Orlando of being boring.

This perhaps was the push that the 27-year-old engineer by day needed to start Boy Writes Miami, a collection of restaurant and bar reviews. Entertaining and mildly offensive (can't anyone take a joke anymore?), his writeups describe Miami with "gratuitous vulgarity included."

After following Miami's Restaurant Power Rankings on Twitter, we knew we had to find out more about this funny food loving character. Blogger Ryan Roman has something to say about everything and with a powerful sense of humor. Short Order asked him about the comments of foodies and the joys of blogging.

Name: Ryan Roman
Began blogging: 2009

Day job: I am a lawyer by day, a lawyer by night, and in-between I write a food blog.
Hometown: I am not from Miami. I was raised in a far away land known as Kendall. When I turned 18, I packed up all of my belongings and took off down the Snapper Creek Expressway, never to return.
The reason I blog: I wanted to find a way to make half of the chefs in Miami like me and the other half really hate me. Let's just say I'm halfway there.

Blog Watch: Ideas in Food, Twitter, and Turnips

These are no turnips
Twitter was inspiration for several South Florida food bloggers last week. The Chowfather concludes that Twitter is killing his blog, so he sums up all of his 140-character food and restaurant thoughts for 2011 in one post. Over at Chadzilla, author Chad Galiano shares compilations of 140-character recipes posted by pastry chef Will Goldfarb (who, by the way, will hold two dessert tastings April 2 in Miami).

Moving away from Twitter, Food for Thought recaps the latest Cobaya dinner featuring chef Alex Talbot of the famed blog and now book Ideas in Food.

Redland Rambles gives us her thoughts about the Upper Eastside Market.

Tinkering With Dinner mistakes a watermelon radish for a turnip, but he makes chips anyway.

The Burger Beast will sponsor yet another food truck event, March 11.

GreatFoodList.com Hopes to Help Locals with Advice and Charity

Carlos Osorio RZ.jpg
Carlos Osorio rarely has the opportunity to go out on the town. What with a full-time job, a wife, and children, it can be daunting. That is why Osorio decided to take action. "My wife and I don't go out much. We have two kids, work long hours, and constantly maintain the house in order, so it's hard to explore the food scene. We both like to go to nice restaurants without breaking the bank. So I thought it would be nice to create a website, where people could explore the Miami restaurant scene. Maybe find reviews, coupons, deals and stuff."

And so Osorio's idea begat GreatFoodList.com, a welcoming and user-friendly website that provides brief reviews with plenty of photos. Unlike other, more well-known DIY review sites, GFL provides foodies with plenty of food porn. The writing is also above par, mainly due to the stewardship of editor and head writer Sue Arrowsmith. Sue says, "There are so many cool, interesting and unique places to visit, especially restaurants, but most people gravitate toward the same thing. And it's not because they don't want something better. It's just time-consuming to find something different, yet affordable."

So as editor, what does she look for? "The food has to be good, of course. I look for restaurants where a person can eat for $20 or less, places that have personality, a little something different. I also love to scavenger for budget-friendly deals at upscale restaurants. It feels good, like I somehow beat the system."
