Happy hour can make them better.

Time to drink for a cause -- Save Scotty's Landing
Though Scotty's Landing doesn't seem in as dire circumstances today as a few months back, the landmark waterfront joint's future is still uncertain.

At the entrance to the restaurant more often than not you'll find a volunteer or two asking you to fill out a Save Scotty's Landing petition.

Miami Oktoberfest Roundup: Grovetoberfest, The Federal, Fritz and Franz Bierhaus

Germany-Munich-Oktoberfest_10.jpg

Don some lederhosen and fill your stein, Oktoberfest 2012 is here. The Bavarian autumn holiday began several days ago but the fever is rising like the head of a freshly poured beer. And lucky for Miami, we all get to take the proverbial first chug at several locations around town in the following weeks.

Oktoberfest is the fall harvest festival of Germany. The original Oktoberfest was held when the citizens of Munich celebrated the marriage between King Ludwig and Therese of Sax-Hildburghausen. Two hundred years later, the festival is celebrated all over the world. Oktoberfest is not just about beer. What's a German holiday without German food? Sauerkraut, pretzels, fancy mustard and wurst of all kinds will most likely pass through your Deutsche-stive tract this time of year.

One recommendation: Brickellfest. Sponsored by New Times and a dozen other groups, the event will include eight hours of SamAdams beer sampling, six bands, and food from 10 restaurants. The VIP cost is $45 and you can get $5 off with a New Times promotion code. The even will be held at 1001 South Miami Ave. For more details head on over to the group's website

Miami Heat
LeBron wins -- we drink!
After the Miami Heat won the championships last night, the team celebrated  at LIV, where the boys ran up a $200,000 bar tab. If you want to celebrate the team's win (but are finding yourself a little short of funds to pony up the price of a one-bedroom condo on South Beach for a night of partying, might we suggest stopping for a drink at one of these Miami Heat parties:

Meat Market had their own hand in the Heat's victory. Chef Sean Brasel was tapped to serve up local fare at all three of the final games this week. In celebration, Meat Market's Friday Happy Hour will honor the champs and fans by giving away one free The Big 3 cocktail per person. This  flaming concoction blends three mystery top shelf spirits, which means that one is probably all it takes for you to wind down from the work week. Guests can also enjoy half-priced drinks, $1.50 oysters, $2.50 shrimp and $6 fresh ceviche to nibble on.

Rusty Pelican is celebrating the Heat with a special happy hour from 4 - 7 p.m. Small plates run from $5 - 9 and special Heat Mojitos are $7. We suggest taking one out on the terrace, facing the arena and making a toast!

Here, by the way, is LeBron James rapping onstage last night with LMFAO:

Yardbird, Peacock Garden Cafe: Avian Happy Hours Start Tonight

yardbirdcaribbean sidecar.jpg
Yardbird Southern Table & Bar
Yardbird is making a Caribbean Sidecar tonight and tomorrow.
What do Yardbird Southern Table & Bar and Peacock Garden Cafe have in common besides the fact that both restaurants are named after domesticated feathered creatures? They're both instituting some interesting new happy hours.

Yardbird Southern Table & Bar is launching a weekday Southern Social, starting tonight. From 3 to 7 p.m. on weekdays, Yardbird will feature discounted $3 beers, $5 wine, and $5 cocktails.

As part of the Southern Social theme, the restaurant will bring in a different guest bartender or mixologist every Thursday and Friday, where they will present their specialty cocktails.

Also, tonight and Friday, June 14-15, local bartender Christian "Woodside" Gonzalez and Clarke's Court rum will be offering up some rum-tastic cocktails. Clarke's Court is a family-owned boutique rum from Grenada. Though it's popular throughout the Caribbean, the only way to get a bottle in the past was to bring one back from the islands. Clarke's Court is now available in Miami, as part of a small U.S. launch.

Tonight's featured cocktails include the Clarke's Court Old Cuban, made with C.C. superior light rum, mint, lime, Angostura bitters, and champagne, and a classic sidecar, made with Clarke's Court special dark rum. The rum company will be providing samples and giveaways, as well.
