Snackdown Celebration in Coconut Grove: Mango Martinis and Good Times

snackdown.jpg
A few weeks ago we announced that Coconut Grove, the little village known for mango trees, boaters, and outdoor bistros, had won our Snackdown, which pitted Miami's neighborhoods against each other for your votes and foodie love.

Though Coconut Grove won by a mere seven votes (and Coral Gables is demanding a rematch), we say leave the big-time politics to the Presidential election because whether or not you agree with the outcome, one thing's for certain -- it's a great excuse for a party!

This Friday, March 30, come celebrate at Coconut Grove's most iconic eatery - GreenStreet Café. From 6 - 8 p.m.

Coral Gables Demands Snackdown Rematch

Categories: Snackdown

Late in the day yesterday, we received an email from the president of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce.

The subject line: We Demand a Rematch!

The email read, "While our folks were out dining the evening the poll closed, it appears that the Grove was busy going from computer to computer and voting. So, with less than .35 percent separating our two neighborhoods -- it is time for a real challenge, a rematch, a decisive contest."

There's no question Coconut Grove took the title. But the Gables wants another shot. What do you think?

Coconut Grove Wins Snackdown By a Whisker

Categories: Snackdown

Coconut Grove defeated Coral Gables by a mere seven votes of almost 2,000 cast in our first Snackdown, which ended last night at midnight.

A neighborhood that has prided itself on weird ever since it was settled in 1825, decades before Miami became a city, the Grove fell behind, then clawed its way back during the week of voting. It unexpectedly demolished South Beach in the first round.of voting and never looked back.

Coral Gables, which few expected to make the final round, led for much of the last week.

Both areas have great dining scenes. Highbrow types, like our own Lee Klein, might poo-poo the scene there, but the people have spoken.

A party is planned in the next couple of weeks to present the winning neighborhood with a plaque. Stay tuned!

It's D-Day.

Last night, hundreds of you decided that Midtown/Design District/Wynwood does not have what it takes to be crowned the Short Order Snackdown champion. The people of Coral Gables and loyal patrons alike harnessed 69.69 percent of the vote (did you guys plan that?).

Who's the favorite and who's the underdog in this race? At this point it doesn't matter. The point is there will only be one winner.
