This Sunday is the big game, and though your brain may be trained on only thoughts of the New England Patriots taking on the Seattle Seahawks, there's a lot more going on.

Investigate new spirits and beers, chow down on food truck fare, or enjoy a lovely brunch on the farm. Then finish the weekend off with the Super Bowl!

The Miami Marathon is this weekend, with tens of thousands of runners preparing to do the ultimate in sightseeing -- take in 13.1 or 26.2 miles of the city on foot.

If you want to cheer on the runners, you'll find a course map at themiamimarathon.com. As a marathoner, I know firsthand how great it is to see crowds of people at the race.

Besides the marathon, there's a ton of events this weekend, from a three-day festival of chocolate in the most beautiful setting in South Florida to the Miss Universe Pageant (right in Doral). Oh, and today is National Pie Day.

The MIA Brewing taproom is now open.
Here we are, at the end of the first real workweek of the year. Even though most of us had days off for the holidays, they were most likely spent shopping, entertaining family, and decorating.

That means this is likely the first weekend in a month when you have no plans. That's great! Reserve one day for a little house-bound vegetation, and then get busy.

There's much to do this weekend, from drinking local beer to taking a cooking class.

Have a bloody good holiday!
Christmas is almost here and you're probably at your wit's end from weeks of shopping, eggnog, and Mariah Carey singing All I Want for Christmas is You.

Take a break from the madness! Flee the mall and meet your friends for brunch, a classic cocktail (made to order), or a beer (with bacon). When all else fails, air your grievances at The Abbey's annual Festivus celebration.

Festivus (for the rest of us) starts now.

Nothing like ramen to warm the soul.
Baby it's cold outside, which means you'll need some piping-hot ramen noodles with smoked pork courtesy of Jeremiah Bullfrog or potent drinks from Cricket Nelson to keep your body temperature on the high side.

Good news: both are available this weekend, along with two brunches. One is a music and gin-laden finale at Tongue & Cheek tomorrow, whilst the other brings the joy of unlimited pisco sours to your Sunday afternoon. That's in addition to the endless amounts of ceviche and macarons you can now have every Sunday as part of La Mar's new brunch spread.

What are you waiting for? Weekend starts now.
